Kim Delaney (born Kim Delaney) is an American actress best well-known for her character of detective Diane Russell in ABCs NYPD Blue in which she was awarded an Emmy Award. Her appearances include All My Children Philly CSI: Miami and Army Wives. Delaney was the sole daughter of an United Auto Workers executive and his wife, a domestic worker. She grew up within a household which included four brothers. In her early years she was aspired to become a reporter for the court. But after she graduated from high school and moving to New York in the 1980s and began to model, she was hooked. In her teens her first appearance as an actress was in the soap opera of 1980 All My Children. Delaney appeared in a number of television shows, films and dramatics since then. Contrary to her successful professional life, Delaney's personal life is not happy and prosperous. The accomplished actress battled alcoholism and had two marriages fall apart. In 2005, the actress was denied custody over her one son.
